The scientific institute for reproduction and artificial insemination of domestic animals “Temerin” was founded as a Center for artificial insemination of domestic animals in Novi Sad as a part of Veterinarian – bacteriology Institute Novi Sad on 23rd May 1953. Its primary task was to reduce the diseases of reproductive organs (trichomoniasis) by artificial insemination. This disease caught over 70% of the cow population in Vojvodina back then.
From June 7th 1989 with the decision of the Government of Vojvodina, the institute for artificial insemination was separated from the Veterinarian institute “Novi Sad” and merged to the Agricultural faculty in Novi Sad by the name “OOUR scientific institute for reproduction and artificial insemination of domestic animals”. Also that same year it was moved to its current location in Temerin, in facilities made according to the standards of these type of institutions in countries in west Europe. The most modern equipment for production and distribution of diluted bull semen was installed. All of this was done in order to accomplish better results in artificial insemination, cow reproduction and promoting genetic bases of primarily Milking and combined cattle breeds as well as specialized types of beef breeds.
It works within the Agricultural faculty until 28th October 1992 when with the decision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia it is joined to this ministry as a public Institution under the name The scientific institute for reproduction and artificial insemination of domestic animals “Temerin” from Temerin.
During the last 60 years, all the activities were focused on promoting reproduction and genetic bases in cattle breeding through scientific – research and professional work, its practical application with the results which are acknowledged in our and international professional public.
Within the scientific-research work the experts of the institute “Temerin” published over 500 scientific research papers which are presented on our and international assemblies. 11 doctors’ dissertations, 6 Master thesis and 3 published papers are presented so far and 4 books, 2 scripts and 2 brochures are published.
